Rolanda Hooch (Madam Hooch)
Rolanda Hooch (Madam Hooch) was the Quidditch Coach, Referee & Flying Instructor at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series of books. Madam Hooch was a broom enthusiast with great knowledge in the game of Quidditch and the wonder of flying.
Madam Hooch is responsible for teaching the basic broom skills to First Year students at Hogwarts as well as refereeing Quidditch matches amongst the houses.
We learn in the books that Madam Hooch first learned to ride a broom on Silver Arrow broom. She mentions this while admiring Harry’s Firebolt broom which he used in his 3rd year at Hogwarts after his Nimbus 2000. The Silver Arrow was manufactured in the early twentieth century which gives us an idea of how old Madam Hooch is.
